The pursuit of export-led growth is a priority objective of the Government of Botswana’s transformational agenda. Increasing the level of exports and diversifying the composition of exports is of crucial importance in sustainable future growth. Historically, Botswana’s economic growth has been export-led, spurred mostly by diamond exports. In recognition of the challenges presented by over-reliance on one commodity, the government is continuously pursuing policies and programs to spur export diversification and achievement of higher income status.
BITC’s Export Development and Promotion mandate aims to promote the growth of non-diamond goods and services to ensure sustained GDP growth, balance of payments stability and employment creation.
